PAPER 4: The I-Search Paper
After you have completed your project proposal and your annotated bibliography, you will start writing your
own paper on the topic. This paper must be on the same topic as your project proposal and bibliography,
although your opinion on the topic may have changed after conducting research. Your goal will be to use the
research you gathered in your annotated bibliography to help you answer your research question.
Note that this will be an I-Search Paper, which is less formal that a traditional research paper: it will allow you to
use your own voice and discuss your own experiences in relation to your research. There will be more
information on I-Search Papers in the Week 4 learning modules.
Requirements:
• 1,000-1,800 words.
• An introduction that introduces your topic (consider mentioning the Ologies episode that inspired your
search).
• A thesis that answers the question that you asked in your project proposal.
• Three or more body paragraphs that
o support your thesis with the research you’ve gathered and (perhaps) your own personal
experience with the topic
o explore opposing opinions, and
o explain why your argument matters.
• At least 2 sources from your annotated bibliography. Please use no more than 3 sources total.
• At least two quotes from your sources (properly sandwiched).
• Proper in-text citations for all quoted and paraphrased information.
• A conclusion wrapping things up.
• A Works Cited page in proper MLA format that lists all quoted and paraphrased information used within
the body of the paper
