You are to write a strong, emotional reflection of Okonkwo’s life from the perspective of
another character in the novel. You will adopt this character’s voice and share relevant,
engaging details about Okonkwo, who he was, and what he accomplished.
1. Choose the character whose voice you want to adopt; this could be a member of
Okonkwo’s family or one of his friends. Once you have chosen your character, you
will want to re-read sections of the novel where this person interacts with Okonkwo.
While such interactions were not always positive, you want to remember that a
eulogy is written in respectful praise and remembrance of someone who has passed,
so a focus should be placed on the reasoning behind his behaviour, and on
remembering him and his accomplishments.
2. Your eulogy should contain personal reflections of Okonkwo, so choose a character
who has regular interactions with him throughout the text. You want to provide
yourself with as much information to work with as possible when writing this eulogy.
3. Pay attention to how you organize your eulogy, the vocabulary that you choose, and
your spelling and grammar. Try to utilize specific vocabulary from the novel, when

eulogy as they were so important within the Igbo language and culture.
