Choose one specific childhood disorder/diagnosis from the DSM under the umbrella of Behavior Disorders, Mood Disorders, Developmental Disorders, or Trauma-related Disorders for children. As an example, you may choose to write on ADHD as a Behavioral Disorder. 2. Etiology. Define the history around the diagnosis. For example, when did it enter the DSM, any change between DSM IV and V, where did the diagnosis branch off from, how is it similar and/or different than other diagnosis in the same category (differential diagn‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍osis)? (25%) 3. Assessment tools. List and define all relevant assessment tools (ie. Connor’s, etc.) and strategies (ie. clinical evaluation, observation, etc.) available to accurately determine this diagnosis for a child client. Clinical evaluation and observation must specifically describe information you would seek (questions you would ask) or things you may be looking for through observation. Be explicitly detailed in what the assessment requires (amt of time, access to paper test, cost, scoring, etc.), how it is accessed, what it targets, etc. Be thorough! (20%) 4. Treatment plan. Create and define a full treatment plan for a child believed to be struggling with this diagnosis (ie. medical exam, psychiatric, OT, etc.). Your treatment plan ought to include the beginning, middle, and end stages of therapy with several “goals” written for each stage. A bulleted format is best for this section. (25%) 5. Interventions. Discuss 3-5 interventions you would use in working with a child, family, or parents of the child struggling with this type of disorder. Define who the intervention is targeting, what is needed to make it happen, when in treatment would you possibly use this intervention, how you would introduce the intervention to your client, etc. (20%) 6.
