A rough outline/explanation of what can be written in tandem with the articles already included below: Food deserts still run rampant across New York City and the ways to combat this include more co-ops, urban food gardens and looking at the economics of our city differently. Food deserts affect the health of lower income families who cannot afford the care caused by lack of healthy foods. Having co ops employs people of the neighborhood, allows self reliance with healthy foods and a closed system can be built with the addition of urban food gardens. Urban food gardens allow for education, after school activities and inexpensive produce to the people of the neighborhood who cannot afford expensive big store prices.
